Fire protection approval for T30 fire-resistant door frames that are simply back-filled with loose wool

Novoferm simplifies door installation in dry mortarless construction:
Rees, June 2011. A challenge that constantly arises on building sites is the issue of time and cost pressure on the one hand, and the crucial necessity of working with particular care to comply with fire protection specifications on the other.
The approved used of loose mineral wool to back-fill frames in dry mortarless construction therefore constitutes a considerable simplification, which Novoferm now offers for its "NovoFire® Vario 50" T30 door systems: The rebate area of the two-sectioned wrap-around frame, type 2140, is now all that needs to be (partially) back-filled to ensure full compliance with the fire protection requirements for F60-A and F90-A installation walls with integrated T30 doors as fireproof seals.
The "NovoFire® Vario 50" fire-resistant/smokeproof doors are sheet steel doors designed especially for dry mortarless construction, which are extremely functional and easy to install, yet also attractive. Key features include the 50 millimetre bonded door leaf with thick rebate, a wide choice of frames, standard 3-D hinges and optional door leaves with the widest range of surface finishes – such as an RAL colour of your choice or wood-look decor.
"NovoFire® Vario 50" doors are tested in accordance with EN 1634-1 and approved in accordance with DIN 4102 as fire-retardant elements (T30) that are ready for installation. In combination with the optional automatically lowering floor seal, they are also smokeproof, tested in accordance with EN 1634-3 and/or DIN 18095. The doors are soundproof in accordance with EN ISO 140-3.
These attributes together ensure that "NovoFire® Vario 50" doors have made a name for themselves as a universal solution for interior design problems.
In combination with the two-sectioned 2140 wrap-around frame, installation of the doors in lightweight partition walls has been simplified even further: Instead of elaborately cutting plasterboard strips to fit, the rebate area now only has to be back-filled with loose mineral wool to ensure compliance with fire protection requirements as a fire-retardant T30-1 or T30-2 element. The counterframe can be left empty!
Flexible and time saving
The workload is further reduced by the specification of the permissible wool: Mineral wool with a bulk density of at least 40 kg/m³ and corresponding melting point > 1000 °C / building material class A1 is totally sufficient for back-filling. Professional craftsmen can therefore generally work with the same material they are using to build the installation walls anyway. Unlike other solutions, this approach not only makes stock-keeping of the installation materials easier; it also simplifies the general handling on the building site.
This advantage is further enhanced by the wide selection of "NovoFire® Vario 50" T30 steel doors that can be supplied straight from stock: Novoferm can supply numerous standard sizes – including smokeproof models – just in time, thus easing the pressure from the extremely tight time frames that frequently prevail on buildings sites. In addition to the fairly straightforward standard finish of galvanized/primed/white, the doors can also be varnished in an RAL colour of your choice or finished with one of six wood-look decors.

"NovoFire® Vario 50" doors are an elegant solution, for example, for complying with fire protection requirements in high quality interior designs. Novoferm's installation variant using "loose wool" for the two-sectioned frames represents a further simplification for integration in installation walls.

Reduced to the minimum: Simple (partial) back-filling of the rebate area on Novoferm doors using appropriate mineral wool is now all it takes, and the door system is still fully compliant with the requirements of EN 1634-1 and/or DIN 4102.
